Mixed media painting on canvas
This body of work was created using the imagery of classic game boards such as Monopoly, Game of Life, Scrabble and Sorry and juxtaposing them with images of the female persona from childhood to adulthood. The Game Boards are metaphors for the development of the female psyche. The paintings are dreamscapes representing the mind of a child while integrating the very adult subject matter that these game boards portray. The Game Bored series of work was created over 6 years beginning in 2005 and continues to evolve.
I’ve always been fascinated by the adult content of these game boards and how they are used to train the minds of children to function in an adult world of conformity and chaos. They also represent a time of stillness and solitude, when society was not a slave to television or the internet and children sat in the presence of these games with total focus and determination
